Skidbladner — a Norse longship in Unst

In 2000 a full-scale replica of the Gokstad ship was built at Haroldswick on Unst and named Skidbladner after Freyr's magical vessel in the eddas. She is 24 metres long, oak-built, and sits in the open beside the Unst Boat Haven as a reminder that the Norse who settled Shetland did so from boats just like her. Unst is sometimes called the most Norse place in Britain — there are more recorded Viking longhouse sites here than anywhere else outside Scandinavia.
